I found out mine was stuffed the morning after driving in heavy rain. Jumped in the Mont and had driven no more than 4 km when the trans went nuts. Hunting for gears, flaring, it wasn't nice.
Turned around and limped home. Was under warrenty, so Ford sent out a tray truck and took it to the dealer. Inhibitor switch was getting water in it. They replaced it and it hasn't missed a beat (or gear  )since.

Darin.

When my selector sensor was faulty it jumped into neutral more than any other gear. There is nothing wrong with the rest of my box, it drives like new now the sensor has been replaced.

My tip here is take the easy/cheap route and get the sensor changed. If the box still doesn't work properly then you haven't blown a heap of cash on a hunch and you've replaced something that was probably on its way out anyway.

well mines do that too and was fine before, even worse after the service, luckily i got a spare speedo sender and a spare inhibitor switch which i reco'd so ill chuck it in tomoz on day off and see how goes, otherwise 2 weeks time manual conv or another freeeeeekin box!
