Hey guys,
Ive been thinking about puting a v8 in my ute but i have no idea what v8 would be best! I have been told that whatever i put in it has to meet emmision laws for that model, which makes things annoying because the xg never came in a v8. im wondering whether to go with fuel injected/ carby fed, but from my understanding if i have a carby fed it has to be on straight gas to be eligable for an engineer to give it the ok. the ute currently runs on duel fuel, but im a bit hesitant on the idea of a gas ran v8. Also what engine would be the easier & cheaper option to fit? Id love to put a 351 in it but i think i may be being a little optamistic
Cheers

they're right about needing to meet emissions - I don't think you'd get away with a 351 - you'd need to look at same age or newer V8. The way prices are these days you could pick up a whole V8 later Falcon or Fairlane so you get motor, trans, computer, loom etc. - you see late model V8 fords on gumtree around 1 - 2 k...

Both of these apply to your application...
My advice is go straight to the 351W EFI conversion and if you use an F-series engine it meets the emissions requirements of the 95 model year.

My advice is, don't pay someone to do it. Learn how to do it yourself. At least do as much as possible yourself because usually most places you would pay to do it will also learn using your money which means a bloody fortune. Pretty much every conversion like this that I've seen done by so called professionals has been done wrong too.
If you want to get going simple and fast, find an F-series 351(the later the better..'94-up will get you a roller cammed engine) and get the whole harness and EEC to go with it. Wire that into you car on it's own ie; no need to interface with everything in the car. Luckily U.S. harnesses don't have all sorts other crap in the harness...it's only for the engine.
Use an Edelbrock performer 5.8 intake to get it under the bonnet, there's other options but that's a good known quantity.
Get XA-E engine mount plates and use pacemaker Tr-Y 351w headers for XW. Use any Ford trans with a right hand starter.
Here's me mates Superbird where we did basically that with exception of the intake which we cut and shut because back then there was no such thing as an Edelbrock Performer 5.8 intake. We used the cars original toploader behind it and an E-series wagon fuel tank. With your XG you wont need to change the fuel system.

Nope. I had about 5 so far.
An F150 Lightning engine on the other hand, would rather difficult to find.
