Are the TFI modules from, say, an EB/ED/EL 6 cylinder the same as the equivalent 5L V8 modules?

aftermarket tfi modules are listed as suiting both 4.0's and 5.0's so id say it would be a fair guess that the stock items are interchangeable as well.

Yes that's what got me thinking. List price on genuine V8 TFI is over $500.... 2nd hand is a bit dodgy (not to mention V8s are rare as hens teeth at the wreckers around here) and i think list price on a 6cyl is a fair bit lower.

BPT do their Dyna Mod units for $215 and it lists them for 6 and 8...

Lol, i should prob ask BPT...

The only difference I can see there being between the I6 and V8 would be a different amount of dwell.

Dwell is controlled by the TFI isnt it? The ECU just tells TFI when a spark event needs to occur (i.e. advance that is required)

yeah, the eec give the pulse to tell the tfi to spark, and the tfi takes control from there.
