hi I have just purchased a 302 Windsor to put in a Ford Falcon XY and was just wondering what modifications I need to make to the engine to make it sound nice. I have heard a few previously that have a very nice note when they are accelerated. I am not really concerned with power as much as wanting a nice note. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you want loud noise or a rumble?

I prefer a muffled rumble that doesn't attract attention when cruising past Mr Plod. I've got extractors going to a 3" single exhaust with 2 large free flowing mufflers. Of course, you could just have a twin exhaust with single mufflers.

What sort of tone are you after? Clankety clank? Then a decent cam and some flowmaster or spintech mufflers. Boom and bark? Hooker aerochamber. Boom, just boom? Borla XR-1. Admittedly these are all typical American exhaust tones and their tastes are slightly different than ours I'm sure you'll find something you like if you look hard enough.

I'm sure I will find something I like, just wondering where to start! Have to change the intake manifold on engine as it is currently fuel injected out of a fairlane. I just need somewhere to start is all!!

How about speaking with an exhaust place that does custom and performance exhausts? Any near you?

Assuming you have a flat tappet 302w and not a late hyd roller 5.0L? Go for the 270Mega cam in this list...

In that case get a RR-265/275 HYD roller and ask em to grind it on 108 Lobe centre line

I do not suggest this. I just replaced my exhaust as it had no mufflers. Sure, sounded good at high speed, if you don't mind the deafening roar. But at low speed it sounded like s**t.
