I have an EL fairmont 5.0V8 Auto.

The car has extractors and 2.5 inch system. GT snorkel, K&N panel filter. I have a few questions.

1. Would the car benefit at all by adding a chiptorque chip?
2. What rwkw would the car make now? what if I add the chip?
3. Would a 3.45 diff ratio be a better mod than adding the chip?

Thanking you in advance of your help..

I would go the chip if it is a reprogrammeble unit that needs to be dyno tuned, not the plug in and drive off jobs.

The Capa eseries chip aint a bad one either, I had good results with my one.

3.45 gears will give it more poke too. Id be doing the diff first because the tuning wont do much more than stock with out some modifications.

For what those chips are worth, you would be much better off spending the money on a better intake manifold. You would definately notice the gains changing that. Where as most people who do a chip arnt sure if it goes better or not.

Wouldnt even think about a chip until you have done a mods that would drastically change the ignition advance requirements.

The single best bang for the buck mod on a 5.0 is underdrive pulleys.
Get the three piece set from BPT.

generally the chips just give a little more fuel to burn (complementing and extra air found by zorst and intake work) i dont know of any other special features that they do, like timing or something, as with a dissy its set in the bay, and as an example the ef6 cant change its timing at all.

i could be wrong though

Yes you can but it involves making an adjustable crank sensor mount.
Much like this thing....

i'd guess 130rwkw now
and do the diff gears....i recomend 3.7's
car will feel much better around the street...(lower revs)
mine had 137rwkw and after fitting the 3.91's it woke the thing up

the diff place all say 3.45 ratio + bearings $700 as they are easy to find

but they all want $1100 for 3.7s or 3.9s as they have to buy a new a***.

will 3.45s make a reasonable difference? or leave it with 3.23s. I dont really want to spend $1100 for the 3.7s

people say a pintara or skyline had the 3.7 to 4.11 ratios...maybe they fit but haven't heard much about people actually doing this
my gears and full spool came from an AU brute race car.
there are usually 3.45's from xr6's for sale for about $450+ complete.
3.45 will still be good though

I've heard the same about the pintara and skyline having the 3.7s that are compatible with our diffs. Is this the case and if so, would they hold up?
