Is it legal to drop a 302 windsor (late model) into an XD Falcon and not run it with the fuel injection etc that was on the source vehicle? The online guide on QLD Transport says must be fitted as originally intended and must meet the same emissions as the host car originally came out with which would be ADR 27a if I'm not mistaken... Windsor V8's originally had a 2 barrel carb as far as I am aware... Cheers

as long as an xd came out with a 302 windsor and a carb it will be fine, needs all the pollution gear of course

If you run an EB-AU windsor, it needs to run the injection gear to be legal. Stick a Cleveland in to solve injection dramas.

No XD ever came from the factory with a 302W. The XD V8's were 302C or 351C only. AFAIK the last carb'ed 302W fitted to a falcon was the XY around 1971-2 before the cleveland tooling was shipped down under and the 302C was created as the small V8 option. Late XW's & XY's were a cross over, with 351C and 302W. The next 302W that appeared in an Aussie falcon was the injected 5.0 in the EB.

Yeah but the thing is the QLD rules for engine swaps say that they must not be more than 10% larger than the largest optional or factory fitted engine of that model, or no more than 10% more HP and must comply with the relevant emission ADR's of the vehicle not the donor engine. They dont distinguish between engine types at all. And as far as I know, they bolt up the same ie engine mounts etc, so seeing as its all factory parts more or less, wheres the issue? So in theory I could run a 327 chev if I wanted to.

xd's come out with302,351 clevo's in them , why run a windsor ? even if you put a late model one in it with carby on it the engine numbers will tell the rego man what it is out of anyway so your back to square one..

cheers phill

Ok, well, anyone got a clevo for sale in Townsville then?

The link is off the QLD Transport site... Scroll to section LA item 2.0 general requirements.

The rules are simple.......if you fit a late model engine into an early model car, the engine must have all the pollution gear on it.....CATs, EGR, Carbon canister, etc.....
If you fit an early engine into a later model car, it must run on LPG only....no dual fuel.
