i have an xr6 n/a and was wondering the cheapest way to turn it into an xr8.Would it be cheaper to cut n shut 2 4cyl blocks(pref ford)together,or to shorten my 6 by 2cyl,weld it to the side and try to buy 2cyl from the wrecker to make up the 8.i often hear of people droping cylinders, but where do they go?has anyone got any spares?would 2 4cyl 2.0 blocks mean i would have a 4l v8?if i used 2 2.6l blocks would this be a big block??all help would be greatly appreciated.
also:i have a arc welder,a electric saw and a sidchrome screwdriver set that mum got me for chrissy, would i need more tools than this??????

dude i almost forgot to tell you, if your going to go ahead with this it might be a good idea to look at upgrading a few other pieces on the car to help withstand the extra power, i will list them here for you....

1. wheelie bars are going to be a must, you dont want unnessacary wheel stands off the lights.
2. you might find that with the extra power being created that your ashtray wont hold the butts in there aswell as before, so i suggest lowering the ashtray by at least an inch.
3. flareing your door handles will be a must for high speed stability.
4. you can never have too many dash ornaments, again these will be for better stability by better weight distrubution.
5. dont forget to bore your horn out to 13.8 volts, 12 volts just wont cut it in the big game.

hope this helps

I think the best way to do it would be to get two V.W Beetle motors and weld them together.

That way you will have 3.8 ltr capacity so you will save some fuel, but also have the Grunt of two Beetles and the luxuary of a XR6.

And being that V.W engines are air cooled, you wont have to change the radiator you could just take it out.

Also think of the money you will save on Coolant.

I've found since I started my aprentiship as a mechanic two weeks ago.
(and I now know everything)
That it's easier to smash the sump in with a Hammer, that way less oil will fit in there. My Boss said he has been doing it for 40 years and he has saved lots of oil.

What the hell are you all on about? Dont listen to any of them!

SUPERGLUE TWO BOSS 5.4'S TOGETHER.. For asthetics, i used selly's no more gaps in between. Gave that smoothed over apperance the judges always look for.

By the sound of it, your Cam is already hand ground just like Yobbo's

Hydraulic Ashtray won't cut the mustard these day. Air Bags are the way to go.....

Oh yeah don't forget the full Autometer Carpet floor mats.....

Yob for more performance i sure you can point him in the right direction.

A man with your exsperience, 370deg duration CAM and a Couple of 1150 dominator should fix it.

Just t though but, considering all this extream power, wouldnt it be a good idea to get another diff and turn your car into AWD??? I mean, just slap that diff in and zip tie another drive shaft (an old broom handle should do it) and away you go.

you could put a 4cyl donk in the boot. this would balance out the weight and give the grunt of a V10 viper. dont forget to connect them with the chrome wafflebars and fit it up with tripple swanksters.
