ok peoples i got a dilema in a my xr8 eb,
I have changed the fuel filter, fuel pump, tfi module and the hall effect sensor, air temp sensor, temp sensor the temp gauge, injectors and intake manifold gasket.

Symtoms

fires for and runs for 30 seconds then dies,
turns over but coughs and splutters
when turning over if i hold the starter on it runs then when i let it go it stops
i had it running but it sounded like the motor was tight then it cleared and was running sweet with very good throttle response, i let it idle and went to check the engine and it died, 3 times it ran like this and then it went back to couhing and spluttering so i gave up. this all happened in an hour

i am guessing 2 things 1 being the pressure regulater or 2 the ecu is playing up
i have checked the coil used on another car works fine, condenssor aswell
just finished rebuilding the dizzy because of the same problems but it hasn't changed a thing. does any 1 no how to do tests on the ecu with a multimeter or test a pressure reg ith out a flow meter, not that it runs any way, have checked fuses and relays

Please help

how do you do that, all i did was put the motor to btdc and then put the dizzy in and then turn the key, is there a different way that i don't know about cause i cant get the thing to run to time it to 30 degrees

If it has smartlock ?? Check internal light fuse ...
Also check fuel pump relay between battery, header tank..
Check TPS is under 1v at idle ??
Check and clean idle speed control.. [ISC]
Note where idle screw is and turn idle up manually ..
If it idles fine ?? Then there's issues with ISC..
Check for air leaks between maf and engine..
Check all electrical connections including earths..
Often the earth wire on rear inlet manifold to harness is left off...

checked all the above and is all fine, i started it yesterday and it ran beautiful for about 1 minute then died, it still just dies like the fuel just shuts off, had similar problems in my statesman, would be running at the lights and then it would just die and wouldn't start, in the end it was the computer that was failing, so i replaced it and then it was fine.
so i am guessing the computer is not keeping the injectors pulsing, any ways i am take it to a mechanic cause i don't have the specialty tools needed to get the readings from the comp

Have you tried extracting any fault codes yet?

do u have an owners manual, gregorys manual etc?
if its anything like an ef u need to earth the 2 lh pins in the diagnostic plug under the dash. big white socket with 20 or so pins, below the fusebox. start it and it will run fast for a minute or so then the idle will drop, this is when u set the 30 degrees , u only have 2 mins to do so then turn it off and lock up the dizzy.
someone will correct me if im wrong

tried to reset dizzy but it wouldn't even run for a minute, it's got to be a fuel problem so i gonna get another fuel filter and a new pump relay aswell as do a diagnosis on the ecu and see what happens

Ok with much patience and tearing my hear out i still have this firing problem, just replace pressure regulator and guess what still no difference, so after replacing fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel relay, ecu relay, hall effect sensor, tfi module, air temp sensor, temp sensor, injectors, still the problem is there and now it will only run while the starter is engaged, so now i am about to check the ignition switch.
Would the smart lock be causing this or the ecu.
Also when you turn the key to start there is nothing so i turn of then to start and it will turn over but won't run have to do this all the time, was like it when i bought the car last year but hasn't effected the running side until i changed the intake manifold gasket

the ecu has died, had a mechanic scan the ecu and was not doing anything but thankfully the rest of the motor is still good
