Ive put in the $150 alarm from Jaycar in several cars, no troubles. Controls centeral locking, shock sensor, door+boot+hood sensing, little flashing light, and the remote looks good and is small. Goes off when its supposed to and is loud. I havent had any bad news from anyone Ive installed the alarms for.

Im just about to put a $500 GSM alarm in a valiant. The differences are remote engine start and it dials your phone when the alarm goes off and you can talk to the people breaking into your car. If your car is being driven you can call it and cut the engine.

I dont know if the $500 one is going to be $350 better. We'll see.

As for installation, if you can read a wiring diagram and can use a multimeter U should be right. Be prepared to spend the best part of a day doing it properly though.
