gday just found out my vehicle is an 85 model and was wondering if that model is the one that runs on leaded fuel not ulp?

Yes - Jan 86 was when the unleaded cars started
That said, the '85 cars run fine on unleaded - you may need to move the timing back a bit if it pings under load... |

mine was june 85 the prick who sold it to me said it was an 88 and the plate under the bonnet is a little hard to read and sort of looks like 88 but however i found the original books and stuff turned out to be june 85 and i've been running it on ulp since september last year and he'd been running it on unleaded for who knows how long will explain alot of engine problems its had

if it has a alloy head it will run unleaded.

You could buy an 85 model XF with an unleaded engine.....how you could tell them apart, Leaded & ULP was the front bumper.....the ULP car had side indicators on the front bumper.
85 & 86 XF's had the lower part of the bumper as the body colour.....87 XF had the top section painted in the body colour with the wide grey centre section, and the 88 XF's were all the one body colour. All 88 model XF's had 4 wheel disc brakes, and power steering, standard.

i didnt know you could buy leaded fuel anymore cant you run leaded engines on unleaded by adding a tablet or something

Yeah, unleaded hasn't been sold, you buy a bottle of a special oil for the valves, need it for my xc, and eventually in my fairlane, you need to add a swig every tank or 2

dont bother lookin at car color and bumpers and crap.
The only thing that matters is the head. If it has a alloy head its good for unleaded. Cast iron head. Leaded. or unleaded with addetive.. To tell them apart. Lift em up. heavy as fuk one is cast. plus it will be a s**t iron color.

Hi,
I think the series 2 ran unleaded. Alloy head started with the XD. Next time you fill up, try a leaded pump. ( lead replacement ) The nozzle is bigger and wont fit a leaded car. There should be a Cat underneath, these were made by AC Delco ( GM ) The series 2 XF had PS and Air standard, and a wider side moulding. Regards EL
