Hi guys,
sorry to bore you to death with a long saga - but it has a happy ending....I've got a 250 2V and over the last year or so have been concerned by the way its slowly dying, blowing smoke 1st thing and at the lights etc - I have long suspected the valve stem oil seals but have always been scared away by horror stories of dropping valves into the motor etc - anyway, Friday night I bit the bullet and made a valve spring compressor that worked brilliant, and spent 8 hours on the saturday replacing them. I also used the $2 roll of rope trick rather than forking out for an air compressor - also worked brilliantly. So now, it drives great, blows no smoke under any circumstances etc.

If there is any interest I can post photos of the operation, including piks of the valve spring compressor which is a screw down type of thing that gives really good control, and will hold in any position - and cost bugger all to make
