Hi there,
I just received some new t bar shifter bushes today. I can't seem to make them fit in the housing. I have done it before about 17 years ago and don’t recall having any trouble fitting last time. What I need to know is how they go together. There was nothing left of the last set to compare with. It seems there is No way both bushes can fit inside the housing unless one is inserted inside the other. When this is done there is no room left for the shaft to go in. Please tell me what I am doing wrong, thanks. |

Got a pic of the bushes ????....maybe they supplied the wrong ones....coz they do take 2 bushes.
Use Zinc Oxide grease to lube them...it's white in colour. http://www.derek.com.au/castrolphzincoxidegrease.jpg It's used for lubing plastics, door checks, strikers and latches.

Yeah, thanks for that. I ended up getting impatient and trimming the bushes. Now its as sloppy as it was before I started. I think I am missing a washer where the nut on the outside does up. I have every XC manual ever written and they show you nothing about the internals of the stick. Even the pics to show you how to set the détent are useless as you can't see what gear it is in and the description says to look at the pic. It would have made more sense to tell you what gear to put it in.

Early XD shifters are the same as XC....and I think the Cortina's (6 cyl auto) were too.

Turns out the bushes I bought were crap. I have asked for a refund. Got a set from Rare Spares and they fit. Compare the altered white rubbish ones with the Rare Spares ones. When I got the white ones they were about twice the thickness as in the pic, I had to cut them down. The joint I got the white ones from actually has a picture of black ones on their website. I don't know what they fit the ones they sold me to, they are a well know restoration company in Melbourne and they are on TV.

Been lookin around the internet ne now I'm pretty sure they sent me these pedal bushes by mistake. They quickly changed their website pic. to show white (pedal) bushes, so you know you are being sent the wrong parts, but no offer of a refund yet. Convenient that my bank does online chargebacks.
