Hi all...

Bit of a strange problem im having with the engine in my XE.

I was unaware at the time, but I just had the engine rebuilt by a 'self appointed ace mechanic'....

Hes done a s**t job ! To Start with he stripped the thread on one of the bolts that hold the tappets on, and this was flapping about freely and not opening the valve. Fixed this with a Helicoil (LOVE THOSE THINGS)

Now, a new problem. When idling the engine sounds fine. A bit noisy at startup but quietens down once the oil is pumped through the engine. The problem begins once the engine starts to rev... Dont know what RPM as we dont have a tacho, but it sounds as though something in the engine is quite loose.

The engine is a bit of a hybrid, as it has an early XC 4.1 block, and a later XF head.

The noise im talking about, sounds like the push rods are a tiny bit too short, and when the engine revs up, begin bouncing between the lifter and tappet... Are there different length pushrods in the various 4.1 250 x-flows?

Sorry for the long post guys, but would really like these problems sorted.

Any help much appreciated ! ! Thanks in advance.
