Hey,

I've got a semi-stock EFi X-Flow in my XF. And the other day i thought i'd find the rev limiter, so here i was, 4500...4600...4650...hmm it'll stop soon...4750...4850....WTF????...5000... Ok back off time, before theirs a bang or clunk. So can anyone tell me if there is one? and if so where?

Thanks,

I regularly take mine out to 4700 (about 84km/h in first) but it just feels to a*** above that. Kind of like its about to fall apart. Aparrently they make max power at 5200rpm but I find that very hard to believe.

haha well the valve bounce is either going to limit the revs or stop it dead in its tracks, lmao

What box and diff ratios are you running? or my speedos out further then i throught, cause with my T-5 in 1st, and a 2.77 XF LSD, i hit on my speedo 65kms. @5000RPM.

Where do the X-Flows start to bounce? cause mine was really grumpy, but she didn't start to bounce. 5200rpm, i dunno, the cams are set up for 1200-3200 or something like that, and i'll bouch for that cause with mine she goes best if i keep her between 2500-3500, anything over that she doesn't like it much.

I'm running a 3 speed auto and 2.77:1 LSD. When I free rev mine (just give it a few stomps on the gas till the red LED's come on and the 2nd or 3rd one starts to flash) I get some crayzy a*** sounds out the tailpipes when I back off the throttle. It sounds like the start of valve bounce but It could be mistaken for backfire.

The factory EFI is done way before 5000rpm, it redlines before 5000rpm, I used to flog mine untill I saw the digital tacho red, it was a waste of time, I was just trying to kill it, all I think I did was waste fuel.

I could get 88kmh out of first, stock 15" ghia wheels 2.77LSD auto, another waste of time, way past peak power, you know you can get about the same speed in reverse too

nah got to 70 something and nearly f**k up, young, stupid and very lucky, I think as always I was showing off at the time, but it hadn't hit peak revs, digital speedo makes it easy to see what speed you are doing at a glance.

It's been a long time now since I had the XF.

It was a weber carbied '87 auto with 2.77 single spinner diff.

It topped out at around 4000rpm or so in first, but I can't remember what speed it did at that. It would rev passed 4000, but ran out of steam at that.

I wound it out to 180kph in top a few times (out on the nullabor). Back then there were no cops out there and you could do what you wanted. The line-haul semi trucks used to wind up to 150-160kph with their high speed diffs and no "Speed limited 100" garbage on them. It's a different story out there these days.

My 87 auto carbie XF used to runout to just under 195, only mods being extractors, exhaust and mild cam. It's was absolutely gutless down low though. under about 2500 it had nothing.

My old XF topped out way over 200. Probably somewhere around 225km/h was it's top speed, and that was a stock `87 EFI S pack with a T5 and a 2.77 LSD, with a 2.5" cat back exhaust. Take off was ok but not great
