why do you have a smartlock bypass module fitted? It's an XH and has smartlock...

Cheers,
Tim

I've been lead to believe the bypass is supposed to generate the right codes when the BEM sends the wrong ones so it doesn't immobilize itself.

No idea how it works...

People who are fitting and EB-EL computer into other cars usually use them... Did you car have a problem with smartlock?

External module like these are only a matter or time til they play up... A j3 chip can disable smartlock completely...

But again your XH has smartlock and as long as it was functioning I don't see the need for the module which has evidently just caused more problems than it would have solved?

Cheers,
Tim

Oh okay well I wasn't aware of that, yeah I was having this same problem before I put it in but then it stopped for awhile but just snuck up on me like a jack in a box that bastard. So if i put an unprogrammed j3 chip will that still disable smartlock?

Cheers

No the chip needs to be custom programmed to do it...

If smartlock encounters an error it will flash out the problem in the jewel in the inst cluster... How do you know it was smartlock that was playing up and not something else?

Cheers,
Tim

For that exact reason smartlock just sits there and flashes. Nothing works only lights. Is it possible for the car to go dead from smartlock button always flashing? Because I have left my key In the on position for 90 mins now and will usually of kicked over by now but still nothing? It has been sitting there for 7 days now. Just didn't want to Attend to it. Would I be better off replacing the BEM? Cheers

When you first turn the key to on how many times does the lamp blink before it pauses and repeats? Or does it continually blink fast with no pause?

Cheers,
Tim

really fast flashes? just means the barrel isn't recognised... Seems odd it cuts out mid drive but as once the computer has been enabled to start the motor it remains enabled until the key is turned back off...

Not sure where the BEM is in the XH... On the sedan its above the left knee of the driver... And you could prove the module was faulty as if you hold the key to start and bump the dash firm and hard with your hand near the module you it would start and that would prove on of the relays inside the module was cactus... I repaired mine by swapping out the relay...Mechanical item you see so it has a certain "life expectancy"...

Try bumping the dash and see if that works... XG was to the left of the glove box IIRC correctly, but XH I'm not sure...

If not it has all the symptoms that it needs to program and if your struggling with that I'd try a new barrel or module and see if that programs... If that doesn't then swap the other of the barrel/module and see if that works...

Better to fix the issue than try and band aid it...

Cheers,
Tim

Plug and play ...

Just need to train the barrel to the bem... Which you do by leaving the key on for 45mins to an hour on ef/el I think... You know it's complete because the smart light jewel will change from flashing fast to solid lit...

Cheers,
Tim

Hi guys my xh won't start because of smartlock. I put keys to turn it on, primes fuel but doesn't crank. Smartlock jewel flashes 3 times then a gap and then repeats flashing three times. Read all the tech docs and can't find the answer. Any help muchly appreciated.

Cheers Ben

Do you still have your smartlock bypass fitted? Seems like something you've done...

Cheers,
Tim
