I know hopper stoppers is the business when it comes to upgrades, but I'm after a list of cheaper options.
Is there a comprehensive list of parts that you can mix and match, parts from newer models that fit etc??? What works best? At the moment I'm running what appears to be standard disc and rotors and drums on the 9inch. Not too fussed with the drums.. Just after something more powerfull up front. Thanks

Also it has to sit behind a set of 14" globes.
We're aiming to keep the car as period correct as possible, while making it easier to live with. There's nothing like an old tank with a throbbing v8 that doesn't stop or turn lol! |

i would add a set of reconditioned xf calipers, good disc pads and a set of slotted rotors.
will be a great improvement over standard, and easier to find parts for in the future too. and they fit onto yourfront spindles and will clear the 14" rims i would also replace all the flexible rubber brake lines ( 1 one each caliper and 1 from body to diff) as these deteriorate over time and maybe put a kit through the master cylinder too, just make it a complete fresh start, they will last for many trouble free years then rear drums u could always add the gt finned drums, running with 2 1/4" wide shoes thats what i have on my 67 xr, and it stops quite well. mates were impressed with its braking capabilities |

Sounds like a good plan of attack. Just what I was hoping for actually. Interchangeable parts. Braided lines are on the list for sure. Those gt drums, they wouldn't be cheap would they? |

keep your eyes and ears open for somebody wrecking a xb ute/van,
most of them had the large finned drum brake setup on u will need the matching backing plate as well, i got the complete setup, 2 sides, from the rear of an xb for $60, brand new pair of pbr gold cylinders were $50 and new linings and machining of the drums cost $60 extra |

Had the fluid changed today.
Now needs a booster and master rebuild. Its leaking inbetween the booster and master  My mate has given me the hot tip on an exchange booster from hydrobooster.com.au Anyone had any experiences with these? |

i was going to buy a set of finned drums from my local wreckers many moons ago and he asked what locks up when you slam on the brakes? i said the rears and he says so why do you want bigger back brakes! having said that i was given a set of EA rear discs by someone who ensures me they fit straight on my 9" (ZD Fairlane) haven't tried them yet though
 as for fronts i was gonna do the XF thing too

If it's leaking brake fluid, it will not be the booster. The master cylinder is at fault, get it replaced or rebuilt asap. If I ever do another XR-XY, I will find a cheap, complete XF and get all the bits I need for the brakes, etc. Easier than chasing bits here and there at the wreckers...

Definately the master cylinder. The bore had a large score in it apparently.
One new master cylinder and a reco booster and the big sled stops on a dime now I got everything on trade prices but as a rough guide they're $250 for each. And I done all the hard work myself to keep the costs down. |

I have used Specialised brake and clutch at Penrith a few times and he does a bit of brake upgrade stuff for Ford's.
He is a good bloke to talk to and get a few different ideas from.His 330 kit on the front of my AU is has worked really well and was a good price. I got some pads from him for my XD to suit alloy XF calipers and they nearly threw me out the front window but they were not cheap at $250 a set. |
