Yes it does have to be removed completely. But if you are going to do a manual conversion its better to pull the dash out rather than use a bolt in type pedal pin. Because the reality is they do break sooner or later and the dash has to come out anyway after that, to replace the broken pedal box.
Think of it as a 2 part conversion. I did my pedal box and a TROYMAN designed firewall strengthener on 1 weekend by myself. And did the rest of the manual conversion another weekend, drove around with a clutch pedal doing nothing for 4 weeks |

wow thats the best mod ive seen to date. this is definatly what il do with my pedal box now, will just have to have the car off the road while the dash and pedal box are out.

my manual pedal box in my au broke the pin off a couple of months ago and what i did was straighten it to its original position, welded it back together then ran a piece of 10mm square bar right along the inside of the box passing over the back of the pin.
shaped it to the box perfectly and then notched the bar to sit over the weld of the pin so didnt have to grind it flush and weaken it. fully welded it all the way across so now has no chance of tearing away. just to help people who have broken there pedalboxes. e series can use the exact same method, and yes dash has to come out.

Like the mod. But you know you should not light the oxy with a cigarette lighter. As for removing Dash's only EF/L dash's have to come out EA/D don't. Regards TPVM.

you cant. I removed a pedal box out of a EA once and left the dash in. the only way I was able to do it was to cut out the ducting for the drivers side air con vent.

Not meaning to raise dead here.....
But Ive just come across this issue after repairing my firewall with a TROYMAN plate a few months ago.. I have just done (again) the dash removal part and pulled the box out...The dash dosn't have to come right out, just undone enough to move forward and allow access to the top 3 nuts that are right behind the ducting that runs behind the instrument cluster. The first round it took around 2 hours...this time it was about 45 mins.. I have taken a heap of photos and Ill post them up on my thread sometime tonight...
