if you got a quarter of the pod covered up by the top of the airbox it would probably send you backwards (less used surface area)you should angle it down into the box so it can use all of its surface area properly

this is my EA pod filter setup (origionally when i got the car from a mate, the pod was connected straight on the end of the throttle body. as this was an extremely stupid idea i chased up an EB intake pipe and put the pod filter on the end of the pipe. this is how it looks as of today.

the plan was to install a panel from the radiator suport panel to the shock tower to keep engine heat away. altho new plans as of next week (starts this week) is to install the BBM so this setup will no longer be of any use to me

a pod filter lets more air in at a faster rate. throttle responce is improved slightly

or can actually go backwards when you run an exposed pod in a hot engine bay... even to the extent of overheating in traffic from the constant cycle of sucking in gradually increasing temp air.

if you read above it said i was to put in a wall to BLOCK engine heat from reaching the POD.

unfortunately i didnt get to finish off this as the car was sold yesterday.

if running with heated air getting sucked in wont effect it too much, if it does get too hot the clutch fan will blow alot of the hot air out, or if EF onwards the thermos will kick in and keep it cool.

oh and for the people wanting to put a snorkel on en EA-ED, all you need to do is replace the top thermostat housing and the hose to an EF/EL one and you can fit the snorkel in with no problems

wouldn't that be a little hard running the pre filter snorkel & the post filter induction hose through the same hole?
& thermos & clutch fans draw all of that nice hot air off the bars in the radiator straight over the motor, it's not an air conditioner for your engine bay. hence why, as you said, the filter off the tb is stupid, also the longer the length of post filter induction hose = more torque.

i had a vl, yes in my disturbed days, i cut out the front of the lower part of the air box to within 20mm of edges, and covered in stainless mesh, painted black to hide the mod, but like pods, the difference was worth it, even the nice hiss of extra air being sucked, airflow thingy had to be tweaked though.

There is an easier way than cutting tubes. i took the 4 bolt air box sealing piece completely off and undid the bolt where the tube is connected to the wheel arch and With the bendy pipe this allows u to stretch the tubing into the air box. Attach the filter to that, shut the box and its done. Thats the deal with el falcon not sure bout other models. Also theres a gap where the tube comes out of the air box but its minor and prolly wont make a difference to performance.
