I saw this on Benj EB and it looked very nice so i decided to do the same to mine, a very easy mod to do.

EL/EF Auto gear knob into EA, EB, ED, DA, NC, XG, XH (only with Tbar not column)

I think the T-bar Gear Knob on the EA/EB/ED/DA/XG/XH sucks looks boring, so I saw Benj from fordmods.com had a EL/EF auto gear knob on his EB and it looked smick, so I thought yep I want one so I got one and with some of the info from Benj i changed mine.

Tools
„« Grinder or file (To remove any burs)
„« Bolt cutters or hacksaw
„« Shifter

Parts
„« EL/EF auto gear knob
„« Rod from a EL/EL door one that¡¦s used to open the door from the inside

Take your old T Bar auto gear knob off by using a shifter and holding the gear knob firm and undoing the locking nut under it, then unscrew the gear knob and take it off, remove the selector bar out, leave the locking nut on the t bar shaft.

Using the bolt cutters or the hacksaw cut a piece about 17cm long from the door rod round bar you got, then put it next to the selector bar you took out of your car and mark the spot you need to make a slight bend.

To make the slight bend put the rod were you made the marking to bend on the corner of a workbench or put it in a bench vice and just push it till it starts to bend and thats it your done, dont bend it to much or it will not work when you put it together.

Use a flat file or a bench grinder and de-bur both ends of the new selector bar

Now install the new selector bar short end in first, then screw the new EF/EL auto gear knob on almost down to the end now hold it firm and tighten up the locking nut using the shifter.

Now you should have a nice working new auto gear knob that looks great.

I have added some photos to help you with this mod I hope this helps,

I BuNtEr take no responsibility in anyway if you damage your car or hurt yourself wile doing this mod, you do it at your own risk.

here are some photos and thanks to Benj for the idea.

Photo of the new and old selector rods, new one is on the Bottom.

Now that looks a s**t load better.

The EF/EL handle feels soooooo much better than the crappy standard one.

Works great i find the door lock rod once lined up next to the shifter rod has a bend in the same spot and that bend only need to be bent the slightest bit more with help of your foot and some strength ! This is what it looks like in my EB II. Also the lock rod i got was from "U Pull It" and was just sitting on the floor of a car so no removal of it needed ! :D

Update:

As the EA door rods are now obsolete, and those out of an EB - EL are made of plastic, something better should be used. I found one to use by buying a 0223 54225. Its a battery J clamp from a 1998 Courier. Needs come cutting and bending of course, but works a treat. Here's mine:

Looks good Mate.

Just a point that the door rods that are referred to in the guide are the ones that go from the interior door handle to the door lock/latch.

Plenty of those still around.

Cheers
BenJ

You can just use a XH falcon transmission rod they are designed for the EF/EL gear knob. They only cost around $5 - $10 at the most.

grab a chrome shaft and knob from a nf nl fairlane and put them both in, no need to play around with rods. the ef el nf nl shafts are an inch shorter and look much better than fitting a ef knob onto eb shaft.

I apologise, I thought you meant the one that the square knob connects to at the top of the door trim. Even so, are the latch rods really thick enough?
