I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on airbag suspension?

I'm not at all looking for the fanged up bouncing ricer look but after vewing DUN-UP-FAIRMONT's post about the cruiser ,I thought it looked exelent!
Looking through some of the previous topics and post a few people were saying that airbags can't be put on the E-series?

would anyone know how I would go about installing airbags? (on an ED)
and about insurance?

thanks

I wanted to get something like Polyair air bags,
http://www.polyair.com.au/
but as the shocks run inside the spring (EL sedan) there is no room. Instead I got a pair of Monroe shocks with built in air bags. They are called gas riser. I use them to level the car when I tow my rally car... pretty happy considering they are very cheap $200 for the pair or so. Anything you wanted to know in particular?

Pump up gas shocks arent airbags! You can put airbags on anything, it just depends what you want to spend. There never used to be a bolt up system for the e series, but that may have changed by now? Ring up some places and find out for the rest of us if its good news. :D

i enquired about fitting airbags to a ea a few years back, they guy said it was possible but they had to extensively modify the upper control arms to fit the bags through, he said he was developing a kit using cylenders instead of bags but nothing ever seamed to result.

I was looking at some stuff on probag ( www.probag.com.au )
they seem to have some resonable prices but thats no use if it will cost
thousands of dollars just to modify everything to install the airbags :(

I was also looking at those gas risers but can they lower the car at all?

I was only interested in doing the back of the car anyway. . . .

AFAIK the airbag's that sit inside the spring, are just for load carrying capacity. Cause we have them in both work utes.
They won't lower the car at all. You just put more pressure in them when you're carrying a heavier load...

Oh well I thought I might kick up my own thred

I rung pro bag today to see what they say, turns out that it is a "pain in the a***" so to speak! Because the shocker of the E series falcons runs inside the spring it makes it very hard to do.
The fella said what they do is relocate the shockers by welding in some brackets elswhere, pull out the springs and fit in the bags. I could see that that Idea was quickly going to rocket in price  :( .

But what I was also wondering, dose the setup on the fairlanes lower? Would anyone have a pic of it?

Maybe using a set of them with ultra low springs might do the trick? Ditch the control unit and use a compressor and tank from probag and yeah?

with ringing probag, did you end up getting a round about figure from them? or did you just leave it at that?

but i can see how it would blow out in price quickly. Still interested though, would be excellent to pull off.

there is another thread somewhere linking to a thread on another forum (yeah, i know ) with someone who has got airbags on their el xr. I'll have a look around for it.
