Will a AU diff fit into an EL XR6? I have a friend that wants to do such a conversion. Are the two diffs the same lenth?

The diff will fit, but the au diff is longer by about 3 inches to accomidate the different wheel offset of au onwards..
You may need to modify the handbrake cable slightly aswell

Hey Troyman, sorry to highjack the thread. If the diff conversion can be done can you run AU onwards wheels properly or is the front of the e-series offset too different aswell?

AU diff means you could run AU+ wheels on the rear, but you'd still need Pre-AU wheels on the front.

I have heard of suspension conversions to the front which pushes the offset out to AU, but they start to get expensive.

i converted the FRONT to au offset with a UPC big brake kit and the REAR with an AU diff, its good having more options for wheels and the bonus of bigger and better brakes all at once.

Thanx for all the responses I got. It really helped my friend to decide whether to modify or not.
