Can anyone please shed some light on how to remove/replace the rear wheel bearings on an AU live axle rear? Have done the front, complete hub unit, but how the f**k do you remove the rear ones? My workshop manual has nothing..... Please help asap, have a buyer coming in a few days. Thanks

Don't they just press on and off the axles?
I would suggest you require a press... Impact from hammers and the like isn't really good for bearings, and may be awkward in a vice anyway...  Cheers, Tim

There seriously must be something holding the hub to the axle..... Otherwise the wheel would fall off? I understand the bearings need to be pressed out, but how do the hubs come off the axle?

the hub and the axle are one part...
You unbolt the caliper and remove it... Use and impact driver to remove that kick a** phillips bolt, remove the disc... and then there is a hole in the hub you put a ratchet through and remove the 4 bolts holding that flange to the diff... then use a slide hammer to get the axle to come out (hub with studs and axle all one piece)... Mate unfortunately you're a f**k genius. Didnt realise the axle was part of it. Guess ill make a slide hammer now. Thanks heaps

Thats good... you kinda had me confused...
Have you got the disc off? If you don't proudly own a slide hammer the common way is to slide the disc on backward... put a few nuts on so that the ends are level with the end of the stud and go to town on it with the disc using the shiney part as a hand grip... Just make sure you have the nuts on so they are flush to avoid damaging thread on studs... Cheers, Tim

Slide hammer my a**, you're disc trick worked a treat in 10 seconds. Do i belt the c**t back in? Thanks all

Na buddy... push it in as far as it goes and just start the bolts and tighten them up... They will pull it far enough in...

Another problem....... Bearings seem fine but theres slight metal shavings inside the axle?

axles looked OK? old bearing feel / look OK? Noises from diff when driving? Might pay to change the diff oil and see what comes out too if your selling it? Not sure how dear diff oil is though...

Thats cool got 2lt of Castrol SAF-XA for my XR8 sitting there, use that. Do a bit of a flush now...

if they are only small shavings I doubt you'll have much of an issue... They wont cause any hassle... Its more where they have come from thats the worry...
