Hey,

My au has developed a slight (very slight) rattle noise when in neutral with clutch de-pressed. The noise comes and goes, some days it will be there most it won't. I have a suspicion it's the throw out bearing so...... Could I remove the gearbox with bell-housing still attached to the engine and replace spigot and throw out bearing? Or would I have to take the bell-housing off.

Cheers for your time,

I did do a quick search without my luck, if there is another topic like this, sorry.

You can remove the gearbox from the bellhousing, but the bellhousing still needs to come off to get to the throw out bearing. IMO it's also easier to install the gearbox and bellhousing when bolted together.

I didn't have a spigot bearing removal tool so I used bread to force it out. Took a while but worked OK

Cheers for the reply. When I order the bearings I'll turn up a shaft with 0.05 clearance for spigot bearing removal.
