Went to the wreckers yesterday to remove two font disc rotors from a Ford I assumed AU2, to fit my AU2. I was going to see if the rotors themselves were causing the brake shudder, Yes, I could have purchased new ones but this was an experiment.

After removing the calipers and refitting same to the one from the wreck, I noticed the calipers were not sitting properly and the disc rotor on an angle.

I found out later those discs was from an Ford SR.

I would have thought they would go straight on without a problem, apparently not.

I checked the disc pad and yep, worn to metal just about, about half mm at the ends and about a 1 and half mm in the middle.

Now I know what the caused the shuddering affect.

Cheers

Brake shudder is usually bad rotors or worn suspension or incorrect wheel nut torques.
AU2 rotors should fit from the SR.
Im confused how the caliper was at an angle. The caliper and pads are attached to a carrier. Then the disc rotor sits straight once the wheel nuts are tightened.
Anyway did you get it all sorted ?

93EB,

That's what I thought too, come to mention it, when tightening the wheel on the front passenger side I did hear a slight creak or knock noise, I rocked the wheel from top to bottom and noticed bit of movement from the top ball joint, placed my fingers on top of the arm and noticed slight movement. That might also explain why I get a loud knock noise from under vehicle when going over a speed bump a bit quick.

I don't know why the calipers would not sit correctly. I did use the original calipers from the AU2, not from the SR, All I know there was a large gap, the rotor would not sit square. I ended up putting the old rotor back on and AU2 caliper sat perfectly as it should.

Got it sorted, I still have the SR disc rotors as spare.

Whether the calipers from the SR are slightly different to the AU2 is another thing I guess.

All sorted for now for the time being.

Mad2,

I don't know if those SR rotors are identical size to the AU2 rotors but wheel holes and centre fit correctly.

I have not measured the disc to see if its 16" or 17".

Maybe I should have taken the front and rear calipers from the SR whilst I was at the wrecker, hopefully it will still be there next week.

Update,

Tried the rotor from the SR on the AU2 again, rotor fits and is correct size but when brake caliper is bolted tight to spec, rotor fails to rotate freely. It was very tight, unable to move, so went back to original AU2 rotor.

AU2 and BA standard have 298mm front rotors fitted and the only way they could be wrong is if the disc is bigger in diameter. The BF and Territory use 322mm Fr discs.
I doubt the SR brake setup is any different unless it had some weird parts added?
