Ok so I have a B&M ratchet shifter for my 302 Capri..

first thing I have noticed that the thick cable goes forward from it and not down..

so it won't exactly sit over the hole and have the cable go down into it.

I've never done an auto before, does anyone have any ideas? I'm guessing that a hole would have to be made in the firewall for the cable to go foward and then curve under the trans tunnel to the gearbox..

a pic of where it comes through the firewall on someones car, falcon whatever would be useful just for a rough idea.

i installed new carpet in my mates car last week and he has the same shifter. it goes straight not down. you need to drill/cut a long hole so it doesnt have a tight bend.

a long hole? ..not sure what you mean. Do you mean like a slot??

strange.. we abouts did you put the hole? on the trans tunnel near the shifter or straight ahead at the end of the tunnel/firewall?
