if u bring it into ford ask them to do a tcm update the TCM is like a seperate computer to control the zf box and the ids will pick up on any codes that it would throw up so u should be fine

its quite likely a battery related issue.
What happens is as the car starts if the battery voltage drops below a preset amount (i **think** its 8volts) it goes into limp mode on the transmission to protect itself from solenoids which may not function correctly at that voltage.
Of course once the alternator is up and going and the starter motor load is gone it will be back up at 12-14 volts and everything would work fine, but it stays in limp mode for that key cycle "just in case".

yer it was fine after it had a limp home then re start at home......

then nxt day wouldnt start mid day. my guess is the battery just wasnt holding its charge... alot of our family members and friends bas were like that from factory. as a rule we usually change them after they drive out off the dealer. didnt with the bf. thanx for clearing that up xpression :). if it happens again ill tow it down to u guys and u can sort it out. i know ur a salesman but surely u must know some of the mechanics on the yard and be able to say 'hey i want u to take care of this car'

i feel park ford dont give 2 hoots. it is owned by john hughes :(. he bought it like 5 days after the car was ordered. imo he should stick with his crappy hyundais and leave the ford dealers alone

I wouldn't risk it, take it to ford, it's not going to cost you anything.

xpressions works for ford..

im surprised at the overall condition of the car. red paint hasnt faided much at all considering its garaged like 3 nights a week due to my grandmother racing home to get her 92 barina in. bonnet could use a cut an polish but tahts about it :P

the paint on the bonnet is the only thing i can complain about. i hear people having probelms at like 5000km with diff clunnks and wat not. mines been t-boned (repaired phew) still no clunks or rattles in it :) goes to show if u look after ur car and have it serviced regularly it makes all the difference.

my mums commodore and brothers ef go to some dodgy place 2 blocks over.

the transmission in the ef is screwed (drops gear when it likes) and the commdore rattles and shakes and comes home with 100 new chips in it.

would only ever take the xr to ford
