hi,

i would like to know (el v8 specifically) under what conditions the torque converter lockup is engaged?

also is the lockup solenoid controlled by a simple wire running to the gearbox? ie could it be switched?

i ask as im now running a histall, and am wondering if there could be any benifits in fuel economy locking it up sooner, and benifits in ET by disengaging the lockup all together..

any info apreciated..

On my RTV the lock up is controlled by the PCM.It locks and unlocks in 3 and 4 gears as long as you are above 60kph.So as you are driving cruising and backing off the lock up is cutting in and out.It will also disengage when in cruise and the car is climbing a steep incline.

I myself have installed a on/off switch so I can turn it off as required.Only problem sometimes is when I use it the PCM catches me and disables it till the next time the car is started and logs a fault code

thanks eagleaus

ive noticed mine cuts in at very light throttle (cruise) above about 60, but will disengage if you get of the throttle entirely. it also engages if you manually down shift.

anyone happen to know which wire controls the lockup in an e series? also is it just a straight voltage or a signal of somesort..

My stall effectively deleted my lock up converter. Its to high an as such doesnt allow it to lock up
Would see definite improvements in economy if youcould get it to work

I'd say you'll need to apply 12v to the S7 line on the TCM, to test whether the Hi stall will lock as per a std torque converter.
