It was the tail shaft after all that f___king around  they said that they replaced it with one of the same but were not specific if it was a fairmont ghia or gli etc... would this have any downsides eg: unbalanced?

hey guys how much would it cost to get it balanced, as i am afraid that something could happen to it if certain speeds were reached. they said they put the same one in but as the car isnt speed limited and if i is a standard tail shaft it could cause disaster right? the xr and ghia ones were they just different cause they had wieghts on them?

99.99% of drive shafts have balance weights on them!! The main difference for the XR'S in the E series is that they are alloy so they can handle higher speeds with out flexing (causing imbalance) unless u have abused ur car by taking it bush bashing id just change the uni joints as i said at the start. if the vibration is still there have it straightened then balanced. when removing be sure to transfer the yellow dots at both ends of the shaft onto the diff flange and the output shaft of the trans to ensure its installed back in the original position to maintain a system balance.
If you were in melbourne id do it for you as im a supervisor in the company that made your shaft and the current ford ones.

thinking about calling up the place about my tailshaft and asking them about it. (making sure it is exactly the same) i asked them when i picked it up if it was balanced and he said that he put the exact same sort in. was going to quiz them about it asking them if it is alloy?, what car it was out of ect.

any ideas of what i should say?

Well your original would have been a 3 inch steel shaft, think the part number is 91DA 4602 AA. Lenght between bering centres would be 1320mm
If the shaft they put in was second hand it would be balanced but if the car had been in an accident it may have been damaged slightly, also you have no idea on how the uni joints are or how old.
I have a shaft sitting at home with 2 new uni joints and balanced wich would suit you car.

The sticker is located in the centre of the shaft there nay be 2 stickers but if your not sure give me all the numbers !
just made a 3 1/4" alloy shaft for my car tonight. shall install it tomorrow and see how she goes at higher speeds, if all is good (less vibration) i may be able to help you out with one.
