Can anyone tell me what this is. was driving along and then after backing off and cruising at 100km the car was vibrating, my thoughts is something to do with the tail shaft?
Are there any way in which the wieghts off mine can come off?
Can anyone shed any light on this?

taking it to mechanic in the morning but still any feedback is helpful. thanks.

i didn't know there were balancing weights on tail shafts - you haven't lost a wheel weight have you?

Highly unlikely a balance weight has come off, if its alloy it will be very noticable as they are welded on, with steel they are spot welded on and if by chance one has fallen off there will be 3 small spot marks on the tube.
The vibration is more likely to be a worn rear universal joint. The front can be replaced also but the rear is the more common one to wear as there is more movement from the diff tilting forward and back under deceleration and acceleration, that is why its worse in your case when you decelerate.

Forget to tell you that the balance weights are located on either end of the tube if they were needed when balanced.

Where does it feel like the vibration is coming from? I'm assuming this is an I6 as well..

Yeah if you are feeling the vibrations in the front foot wells and a whirring noise it wont be (well shouldnt be ) your diff but Id be getting the wheel bearings replaced in the fron (most probably the front left) wheel.

The symptoms you seem to be having are similiar to a common falcon bearing fault

Remember what DYL first said
" Can anyone tell me what this is. was driving along and then after backing off and cruising at 100km the car was vibrating"

Still sounds like the rear universal joint depending on what sort of vibration, if its a fast but deep vibration from the centre rear position its uni joints, if more of a shaking vibration its wheel balance.

that happened with me and it was the tyres mate. Its Dunlop Monzas that do it. Happened on my EA and a rent-a-car Camry that i had as well.
