Hey all
Wanting to change my diff oil.. because sadly ive just been lazy.. lol and been too caught up with the eng and tranny i forgot about the diff..  Ive read, on the EL's i can just undo the lowest bolt and the oil will run out? Is this true? Or do i have to do as my gregorys says and take the whole backing plate off and get a new gasket etc? What oils are people using these days for there LSD's? Not the biggest "spender" but $40odd dollars is fine..

Yep lowest bolt is drain bolt.
I can't remember exactly which one I used, but it was specifically for LSD and had anti-chatter additive in it also. Probably Castrol, or Penrite. But anything that says it's suitable for LSD will be fine. |

Alright mate, thanks, i just went and bought 2.5L of penrite gear oil 85w140. So ill drop that in today hopefully, then she'll be fully serviced.. ahah

I've been using Valvoline 80/90 - check the bottle, IIRC does say can be used for conventional and LSD - about $8- $9 a 1 L bottle - diff is around 1.6 - 1.8 L refill ??
You can get clear 10mm plastic hose from Bunnings for $5 to use as a filler with a funnel - run it along the diff and tape it above one of the rear tyres, and gravity feed the correct amount. Before you put the filler bolt back in, reach in with a finger and check the level is just below the filler hole.

Penrite seem to have consolidated a lot of their range recently.
Anything that was remotely similar is now one product. They've also updated a lot of them to semi-syn. |

I have tried a few different diff oils, and have found Castrol SAF-XA Full Syn to be the best for me. If you drive your car pretty hard it may be worth a look at

Fair enough, i will give this penrite a try and if it doesnt seem to make a difference ill switch to a full syn,
