So I thought it was about time for new brake pads on my XH ute.

How hard could it be? I reckon 2 hours should do it.

1. Buy brake pads
2. jack up car
3. take off wheel
4. take off calliper
5. take old pads out
6. push pistons in
7. fit new pads
8. refit callipers
9. refit wheel
10. repeat from 2 three more times

Far F’kin from it.

One rear piston I could retract using the handbrake adjuster and fitted the new pads.
The other rear handbrake adjuster was seized solid and I didn’t have time left to bugger about with it so pads didn’t get changed.
Now I’ve had a chance to strip and rebuild both rear callipers with new rubbers all round, took 4 hours to do both, but on refitting one rear wheel I mangled a wheel stud (first time ever, I didn’t think it was possible).
So wheel and calliper off again and a few well aimed hits with a lump hammed gets the stud free, but nowhere is there enough clearance to get the stud out, trust me I must have rotated it a dozen times trying. So now I’ve had to loosen the half shaft and drive it out to remove the stud.
Taken me 3 days so far (I do have a day job)

Oh how I’m looking forward to doing the fronts now!

Haha, nothing's ever simple! The fronts should be easier considering that's where most of the braking is done so hopefully the pistons are fine
