Hey guys, I just wanted to know whether there was any way I could quiten the bearing noise from my diff without having to replace the bearings or diff centre?

banana peal!

meh, are you sure its bearings?

Replacing the axle bears should take a few hours including traveling to the bearing joint.
Last ones I did cost me $15 a side.

If it is the carrier bearings, I'd get onto it straight away. cos' with noise comes wear, wear = replacement parts!

Do banana peels really work?? I mean, I've heard that before, although I thought it was a complete myth!

I had the rear wheel bearings replaced about 2 months ago, so definitely no those.

The noise is definitely the bearings within the diff (unsure of the specific name), as they have been assessed by a few different mechanics and driveline specialists as being worn...

Anything? Should I try the banana peel?

I've called a few diff places in regard to a complete drive-in, drive-out overheaul, and the cheapest quote I got was $740 at a place called "AWARD DIFF & GEARBOX SERVICES PTY" in Seven Hills, although I am unaware of their reputation.

Anyone had any experiences with them?

It includes "removing rear diff from vehicle, disassembly and cleaning, replacement of pinion bearings, carrier bearings, pinion oil seal, adjust backlash, adjust Limited Slip where required, reassembly with correct clearances, reinstallation to vehicle and filling with high quality diff oil".

This comes with a 12 month/20,000km warranty.

Would this overhaul fix both the diff whine AND backlash?

f**k the banana peel off the only way to fix is to replace the bearing. But you can use 90 grade diff oil which will reduce the noise.
