I am sorry to ask this as I am sure its been asked many times.

What I need to know is the fitting on a EF/L hose the same as the AU and can part # BA 3F656B be used to replace the leaking fitting?

New hoses are only around $50 on ebay.

Does the replacement nut just 'click' on to the original hose somehow?

yes - once you get the old one off you will see a groove in the pipe that c clip in the new nut will lock into - just lube it up with a bit of p/s fluid and push on til it clicks into place

My hose needs to be replaced so this is fairly topical to me too ATM.

I'm sure I read somewhere that you can get a hose that eliminates that stupid swivel nut arrangement altogether (swivelling after it's done up isn't necessary and can be done away with no sweat). - I think it means removing the adapter fitting out of the pump - the new hose end fiting is the same as that adapter with a seating cone / spiggot and the shouldering teflon ring.

I thought it was a factory change to later cars but looking on ebay they all still seem to use that daft swivel coupling - so maybe it's a type of aftermarket hose.

To do that you need a custom hose from Enzed or similar.

No - Tickford6 has posted that you can get hoses across the counter which DON'T have that Ford crappy swivel fitting.

Check this one out - note it seems to have shouldering nut + O ring ends on it - ie. pump end same type (very likely different size of course) as rack... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ford-EA-EB-E ... 5894f91ead

Oh, that would be awesome.
I had only heard of someone getting their own made up.

If you remove the adaptor from the back of the EF/EL pump, the EA-ED hose fits straight in.

That ebay job looks nicer than the accordion sleeve on the stock EA-ED hose though.

Try not to disturb the black fitting that screws into the pump body.
The flow control valve bears against it internally (spring loaded), and there's an O ring that seals the tin reservoir to the body.
So undoing it disturbs all of that.

Thanks to all those that posted.

I have a 1998 NL Fairlane so BA 3F656B looks very different to my original nut, but all measurements suggest that it would work.

I got a new nut from Ford; Cut off my old one; fitted new nut (and o-ring); and and job done.

Too soon to say if I have any leaks, but a quick test indicates that it is all fixed.

Here are my pics and brief notes:
