Hey I have developed a problem with my EF V8 Auto. It is redlining in 1st and then wont go into 3rd even at 110kph.
It has 200k on it and auto was serviced 50k ago.

Things I have checked so far:
TPS sensors are reading correct as tested on both in open and closed pos.
Speedo is working correctly.
Voltage is b/w 12.5- 13.5 depending on whether lights on or ac is on. Is this a little low?

I have performed a diagnostic and it reads 522 and then 111. all ok.

Performed dash diagnostics and found that the inhibitor switch is nuffed and is not sending a signal. It reads 0 and not PRND etc.

In the last 2 years it has not always manually gear selected, which I suspect is related to the inhibitor switch playing up for sometime. It has also taken sometime to go into gear on cold mornings. That is, I will put it in R or D and it will spin like in neutral for a minute or so until finding the gear.

I know the obvious is to replace the inhibito switch and see but that wont arrive until later in the wek and wanted some further suggestions.

Could it be a faulty solenoid or the speed is not being fed onto the trans ECU?

Also, airbag light is dimly fading on now and does not perform diagnostic mode.

Any help would be appreciated.

Process of elimination, dont go f**k around with anything till you replace the inhibitor, which is a likely cause. Airbag not sure, replace the module apart from that, take it to someone, if its faulty it may deploy for no reason, unlikely though.

50k since last service? fluid and filter are usually changed yearly or 20-25k,and adjustments -code checks.boxes die at about 200k plus.mine died 2weeks ago 275k,worn out 2nd,but to replace it is the same as to reco the lot.i had my boys replace the lot except the electronics as the codes where clear and box is normal.i changed the inhibator switch at about 205k,jumping gears and very erratic.try the switch and fill box to plug level, then run through the gears for a few seconds in each then back to make sure all the systems full,re check the oil level. good luck you may get more ks out of it
