Hey guys I’m new here, i have a problem with my ‘95 EF Fairmont auto. When I select D it stays in neutral unless I give it some revs then it will jump into gear. Same with R I have to rev it a fair bit to get it to engage. While driving under power it’s fine until I take my foot off the accelerator, slow down for a corner or come to a stop then go to takeoff again it feels likes it’s in neutral until the revs pick up and it jumps into gear? Someone suggested a new IAC valve as they’ve heard it can cause problems like this especially in a 5sp “rev hang” fluid is fine smells a little burnt, however I’ve been told to try this soo I may duck down to my local wreckers and see if I can use one to test. Otherwise has anyone else had this problem in an auto before? Car has 350000k’s on it but motor was replaced with a 180000k one (with receipt) box was fine but the cars been sitting for a few years and I only started to fix it up recently. Any ideas? Thanks guys appreciate it.

Yeah I’ve checked the fluid and is definitely ok. Although for future is dex III ok to fill? I’m waiting on a new IAC valve to come (wreckers didn’t have any) so I will see how it goes.
