for awhile now when i take off after work i find that the 4speed auto gearbox wont change into 3rd straigh away and latley i can be wait about 8 seconds for it to finally change gear. its like its in neutrak cause i just revs out. but then toay leaving work i pulled up to an intersection and went to take off and the car rolled back and just reved, i shoved it into first and still wouldnt move then it finaly took off in Drive. as im an appretice i dont really wana fork out money for a manual conversion but in saying that how much would you pay for a EB/ED 5speed gearbox + installation (depending) or should i take it somewhere for it too be looked at??

thanks for any advice in advance guys! cheers!

sounds liek a loss in tranny fluid have u had this checked?

a gearbox service is a good idea as maybe the filter is a bit clogged and not allowign enough pressure...

manual conversion drive in drive out ~$2000 ish depending

I had the same problem, got i serviced and then 1 month later i did it again, either the bands are snaped, i tourque converter shat itself or the filter is cloged, so if ya can get it serviced that should fix it for a bit, but if i were u i would fix it and look at gettin a new box. How many Kays has the box done? EA to EBII usually s**t themselves after 260 000ks they changed them in the ED which i have i got an EF box put in mine.

A manual conversion will be bout $2000 upwards depending on where u go.

Let me Know how things go, goodluck.

you might have problems with the solenoids or your torque converter on the auto... the auto gearbox's are pretty complicated with a mixture of electrics...they do cost around $2000 to replace aswell...

should really get the tranny flushed! the gearbox has had 2 partners the 3.9 and now the 4L from a ED clock says 340 000 lots of country driving, funny thing is when i drove it today it didnt miss a beat! didnt think it would cost so much for manual conversion! how much roughly can you pick up the gear and do it your self? thanks for the help guys!

is it easy to change the solenoids? cheers guys!

Yer man the boxs are weired i wouldnt trust it though ya never know, i would say get a new 1 or convert, if anything the fuel consuption would be a little less than the auto driving normally.

Manuals, from my understanding, should be more economical that autos f driven with economy in mind.

The manual's suck less power out of the engine seeing as it doesn't have the drag of the converter on the engine when the converter isn't locked up.

Country driving you'd probably notice no difference if the overall ratios are the same.
