its a 1994 ef falcon gli that im converting to manual i got the gearbox etc out of a 1993 eb....basically the gearbox is in my car and this is what its doing

high idle 1,000rpm to 1,200rpm

cooling fans running constantly

tried a ecu out of another ef that had been converted to manual and made no difference to mine

we have been told of a resistor you can use on the cooling fans wiring harness and if it can be done could anyone give some step by step instuctions how to do this.

hopefully someone could help out with this...thanks

what is the best way to tell the ecu's apart from manual and auto as we have got one lined up just wanna be sure it is a ecu for a manual

also we tried a ecu out of a ef that has been converted to manual that runs perfect and mine still did the same with that ecu aswell as when it was running the auto ecu.

do you recon the manual ecu will stop the high idle and fans running constantly?

reason i ask is we did try another ecu out of a ef converted to manual that runs perfectly and my car did the same thing with that ecu aswell.

the manual ecu controls the cars thermo fans thats what i know,
im not sure if it wil change the idle, could your idile problem be a vacum leak?

Have a read through this thread.

fordmods-technical-documents-diy-f38/auto-to-manual-conversion-guide-t42420.html

You can run the manual box with an auto ECU...as long as you do the resistor trick as per the guide.

A manual ECU would work best, but good luck finding one on the cheap.

Using the auto ecu might make the car hunt for idle until you bump the idle screw up a bit...

Try adjusting your idol screw on your throttle body and then resetting your ECU that should fix your high idol. The auto computer will run on a manual but it does some funny things, like trying to figure out what gear it is in, which it can not do with a manual gearbox. this will make the idol hold iun a higher RPM for around 2 - 3 sec every time the revs come down!!

thanks for the replies i have found a few manual ecu's for around the $100 to $250 mark i may consider buying but i will probably just do the resistor trick.

6.8kohm and 1.2kohm resistors will fix these issues.

if I remember correctly we had something where it listed a whole bunch of ECUs and their catch codes (the ones written on the front lable in big letters) and it matched them to what car they came out of and if it was a manual or not. and i just found it

ecu-fuel-system-eec-f21/ecu-catch-codes-t30186.html

have a look there
