hey all. Im currently removing my auto transmission following Voxaces manual conversion guide and I am completely stuck on the top bell housing bolts..

I cannot get a spanner on to them no matter how hard I try, the passenger side ones in particular. Even with the transmission lowered about an inch or two, which is as far as it goes its just too damn close to to the chassis, I really need to move the engine forward.

Anyone got some tips on this one? Ive spent hours[/list]

I use a knuckle (uni joint) and a long extension bar.
also you can use a small wobble bar (extension with a rounded head) and a socket.

usually you need at least a 40+cm bar

The top bolts can be taken out with a BIG ring / openender from the top is=it's not easy  but can be done otherwise on a hoist with the transmission lowered and a looooong bar and a series of uni joints and a breaker bar. :D :D :D

I just cant see how you could get a socket or uni joint even close to them, the clearence is non existant, I cant even get an open ender to sit firmly on them let alone turn it.

The top ones are easy! the one below the top on the passenger side is the killer.

attack that first.

You have dropped the exhaust and the rear engine mount?

easist way is drop gearbox mount and jack the front of the engine with a jack and a block of wood, rubber ect under sump to tilt the motor up and gearbox down then at least two mabey three 12 inch extensions or one big one and breaker baar to crack it then rachet to undo

well i got the 2nd from top on passenger side using just then using the method described, but I think im gonna have to somehow get to the two very top ones from the top of the engine bay.. I cant get a socket on em and can barely get a spanner

I bent my sump a little as well so I dont wanna try push the engine any higher
