They'll replace pump, seal and filter most likely.

$230 is at the upper end of what it's worth. Just make sure this is a FULL flush of the fluid.

You're looking at $40ish for the filter/gasket kit... probably $100 worth of fluid if they flush the whole lot out (less than half that if they dont flush and just replace the fluid in the box, most of its in the torque converter)... probably an hour worth of labour...

Ford dealer?

Thats the standard price for a normal service, however they don't change all the fluid, only about 4.5 litres. If he's been quoted $230 then they are either ripping him off or going to the trouble of changing all the fluid.

It is for a change of the full 11 litres. they also have just standard change with just a top up or whatever for $120 but i thought i may as well get it flushed out and refilled fully while i have the cash.
Aparently it is common for falcon/fairmont ect gearbox to burn the auto fluid but either way with the full flush i will be quite happy. I hope. Might also ask them about a shift kit and trans cooler?

Thnks for the feedback guys.

Thats good, a full flush is a great idea every now and then but not neccessary every time if the trans is regularly serviced. A trans cooler is a good idea even if you don't do any towing, it will help look after your tranny.
A shift kit, well thats a personal choice.

The fluids 33 or 36$s for a 4 litres bottle of the Castrol stuff, the box holds 8 or 9 litres if I remember right, so about $60 for the fluid, although the workshop probably buys in bulk at trade price for cheaper!

yeh doin a full flush chews up about 20 odd litres of fluid. its worth it though as it gets all of the old oil out.

Yeah, I didn't consider the fluid that's 'wasted' by being flushed through and thrown away.
I change the filter on mine once a year and top up fluid, about 20,000km'. it's a closed system so the oil doesn't get dirt from the outside (I always here people saying 'would you only change half your engine oil', different thingsif you ask me).
considering mosty people don't get there tranny's serviced often at all and there usually fine. i figure mine is a very cheap way of maintaining it. it'd probably be a good idea for me to get it flushed out every 3rd service or something.

does changing your engine oil make your car go faster?
unless there's something wrong with your box should notice much change, maybe smoother gear changes.
