XR's got a better tailshaft stock.
Speaking of: Got my new straight, balanced, new race-spec uni fitted XR shaft back today from the Diff Dr. Reco box arrived on my door step some time during the day. So I've got a busy weekend ahead.

As ive said before the we test the alloy shafts for fatigue at 1200nm, it takes around 150,000 cycles before they break. Basically they are strong enough to handle what the XR's can produce in torque. I will have to find out what the speed rating is for the standard alloy shaft.

s**t, did it tear the chassis where the gearbox crossmember bolts to it?

didn't tear the chassis at the cross member, however, the tailshaft did make a few perforations around the end of the tunnel near the diff, with some good sized dents.
Soon to be fixed.

Im assuming in these tests all parts are in at least reasonable condition (at least visually). I dont suppose many will fail off the production line, but put a few 100,000k's on the uni-joints, bit of free play in the output shaft of the gearbox and some vibration through the drive train of other parts not in new condition and things might start giving a lot sooner. Mal Wood also posted on another forum not so long ago that the alloy tailshafts fitted to XR's are very easy to damage. It might only take a stone to get flicked up, take a chip out, and they are structurally weak.

Only JUST came across this Thread...
I had heard off this happening... Wonder how close i was when i did 200+ in a 97 MAGNA!!! WE did it one night and this thought never came into my head... Tho i was drunk at the time(Passager) All i was thinking..."s**t 200!" The next day we found that the tires were 140 speed limited!... Any1 know wats happens to tires? when u go too fast? With the exception of re-treadsre-moulds I didn't think you could buy tyres rated that low.
