G'day once again guys,
today I just fitted a set of dimpled and slotted ADB rotors to the front and rear, as well as new soft pads which were supplied with the rotors. I must admit, the brakin performane has increased dramatically as well as fixing the shudder... BUT... They seem to make a strange noise upon braking. It's kind of hand to explain, but it's a kind of 'humming' noise only while braking. Is this typical of a new dimpled/slotted rotor installation? Ie. Requires time to properly bed in? Any suggestions would be much appreciated! |

Id suggest to do a couple hundred kays so they bed in nicely. I had slotted dimpled rotors on my BA and they didnt have the issue. Replaced them due to warping with just RDA slotted now.

I also vote to let them bed in. Did my mums BA RTV brakes a couple of weeks ago with all slotted rotors and new pads and they also were noisy in that they sounded/felt grindy. However I just found out that sound has now gone.

Interesting... I knew I'd have to bed them in for a little, although have done over 500km's since replacing them without any improvement whatsoever. If anything, it feels as though the rotors are starting to warp again, although I'm not too sure if this is just my paranoia!
Also, while replacing the left-rear rotor, I noticed that the single screw that holds the rotor in place was missing. Would this have been a contributing factor to the rear rotors shuddering violently? I was unable to source another screw during fitting, so have left it off for the time being  Any suggestions? |

Best to see if you can source that screw but I doubt it would have contributed much to your shudder issue. To me it just looks like it's there to hold the rotor in place; maybe for when you make hand/park brake adjustments. Otherwise, when the caliper and wheels are on, the rotor is not going to move. If it still bothers you, best way to find out is to pull the wheels off and have a look. Make sure everything is torqued up right and nothing has fallen off.

I have had the RDA slotted and dimpled rotors on for over 10000 km's and the humming noise doesn't go away, it must be a caracteristic of the disc, I dont mind it but my wife hates it.

You do know with the floating rotor setup in the BA you have to torque the wheel nuts up to 135Nm.
This places even clamping force on the rotor centre allowing even expansion and contraction during heat cycles. I have done this for a few friends and family and it fixs most light shuddering/noise issues. |

The noise hasn't gotten any better... In fact, I would say the situation has gotten a little worse, as the rotors are starting to warp and shudder again. Although in sayin that, the vibration/shudder is only evident under hard braking. It is not evident under light braking.
Any suggestions? I thought that replacing all four rotors with new pads would have fixed the problem for a lot longer than this?! :-/ |

is there a vibe through the steering wheel or the whole car? what about front wheel bearings were they replaced at same time?

It is definitely evident through the steering wheel and a little through the body, although it appears that 90% of it is through the steering wheel.
I didn't replace the wheel bearings during replacement of the front rotors, as they appeared to be in good condition. |

I just did the fronts with dimpled / slotted ADB rotors and did wheel bearings at the same time as they were only 50 bucks delivered off E-Bay for Japanese not Chinese ones, i've got no noises but I'm wondering what differences maybe the bearings are a bit loose or too tight?

Hmmm... If anything, they would probably be too tight as I didn't know what speciication to torque them to, nor did I have a torque wrench handy!
Would the wheel bearings being too tifht actually cause that noise?? |

Possibly, all i did was nip them up to seat them then back them off till spinning freely and just gave them a little bit as they only need 25 or so any way, but they have to spin nice and easily.

Yeah that's pretty much what I did... Tightened them up I seat them in properly, then backed them off so the rotors spin really easy.
I have no idea what else to do to be honest? |
