In speaking to pedders about a loose front end, they found the intermediate shaft on the column (shaft front firewall to rack) was buggered.

They got a replacement for me, looks like it was the last one FoMoCo has & will ever make. Eg, you cant get one for love nor money anymore. whats more its ford genuine for $385 and not repairable. also, its one of those things that looks more complex than it needs.

So just a heads up, if theres play in your front it could be this shaft (or rack ends) as my rack is still pretty good. how you go about getting a new one is a little beyond me.

The V8 ones are different to the I6 ones, and you haven't been able to get them for a while now either.....EF/EL....that was.

the v8 ones have a diff part no. to the 6's but when u hold them side by side the only difference seems that the v8 shaft has a small amount of heat wrap on it. a 6 cyl 1 will fit a v8. wreakers normally want about $30. between all the e series guys i know we have gone through a few. just get another 1 when the current one gets movement.

I've got a couple of decent spares stacked away due to ford not having them for reasonable money, and now it would look like not at all....

It wouldn't be too hard to make a replacement, but it would have to be engineered, keeping the cost high...

Cheers
