On the weekend i bought a cheap T5 off a mate knowing it had a reverse problem but there is no reverse at ll it keeps popping out and soon as the clutch is released you cant hold it in reverse it just grinds the reverse gear i paid 50 bucks for it but?

* is it worth a reco to fix?
* just exchange it for a reco one and pay $700 + FREIGHT
* Or buy another S/H box from the wreckers

looks like it is from a early model EA I assume cause the old man's old EA did this. It is something to do with a mechanism in the shifter or something apparently in the gearbox the selector for reverse has a spring and a ball bearing and a slot that holds it in reverse or something it is just a matter of recoing those parts. I don't know how accurate or strue that is but about 4 or 5 different people ranging from back yard mechanics and mechanics told him

yes its out of a 88-89 model EA so is it worth recoing the box my self? does the ed repair manual explain about repairing (in other words is it an easy but time consuming job or just worth paying someone else to do it for me?) or just reco exchange the box?

It is available at most libraries, and if you google it you can buy it online. Huge help when working on a T5. I also have a PDF of the T5 service manual. PM me if you want a copy. 8-)
