the middle number in the size ie: the 60 in 215-60-15 is called the aspect ratio and is a percentage of the overall diameter ie: the 215 so a 215-60-15 is: 215mm wide
60% of 215mm about 130mm high and is a 15 inch rim

Sorry for dragging up such an ancient thread. It was just the most informative one that came up in a google search.
I'm trying to find out what is the correct size tyre for the standard 14" rims that came on the 1994 ED I need some new tyres and I've asked a bunch of tyre shops and have been given different answers. I got some cheap second hand ones thrown on there the other day but I want to ditch them shortly and put some good quality new ones on there. When I got the 2nd handies thrown on it they put 175/70/14 on the front and 185/75/14 on the back. When I asked them why they told me 14" tyres in the correct size for my car are extremely hard to find and this was just the closest match they had lying around. This is why I had to get the 2nd hand ones thrown on it. https://pasteboard.co/JVhYCW9.jpg . I thought they'd just deflated them so I went and bought an emergency tyre inflator. But when I went to pump them up the air immediately came out the knife holes. Would pay money to get my hands on the little pricks |
