Easiest way is to pick up a wreck with ABS from the auctions and swap the parts over - that way you know you have everything you need.

As far as I know you'll need:

Brake lines (3) from master cylinder to ABS unit under the LH front guard.
ABS System wiring. The plug comes off the same loom that feeds your lights etc. That loom comes from the connector under the dash, through the panel under the RH guard and reappears behind your battery. It feeds everything on the RH side of you engine bay, lights etc
ABS unit which includes all the electronics - that's what the wiring connects to.
ABS sensors for all the wheels. Your GLi *maybe* has the wiring in place if it was an option.
ABS discs with the tone wheels.

Don't know about the ECU requirements (if any), someone more knowledgeable than I could probably tell you.

Cheers
RD

Pretty sure that if you have ABS and/or cruise control fitted then you should already have all the wiring in place for the other. So if your car already has cruise control then that will save you having to swap over wiring looms.
