Hi Lads,

First post and nice forum BTW :)

I'm having issues with my 97 XH van.Standard 4.0 and 4 speed slushy on tree.

Sometimes, driving(normally)away from a standing start,it locks in first gear and won't upshift-until about 60+ kmh and it thrashes into second.

Other times, coasting into a corner at low speed(again normally) then accelerating out of the turn(normally),it won't downshift(appears to be locking in top),until you back off the thottle, and it comes good again.

Happens intermittently(sp?),but is becoming more frequent.

Nearly 180k on it.

I guess a tranny issue,but what's the cause?

It's a good daily driver.

Cheers in advance.

Chris.....

Welcome to the site fella 8-)
Sounds obvious but have you checked the fluid level (or can you? unsure in an XH if they have a dipstick ie ED) otherwise it sounds like the tranny needs a service kit in it.

That happened in my ef a few years ago. Held first, then slammed into second every now and then. Turned out to be the inhibitor switch, they get corroded being under the car and it changes the resisatnces in them.

Put a new one on, fixed it no problems
