Oh, now I get it.
I thought you were using the existing buttons to change gears, but you're still ADDING buttons under the FPV sections still (I don't know why I thought you'd abandoned that) and adding a new resistance value to do the triggering. Gotcha. I had all sorts of questions running through my head, like whether you were using the performance-mode position to switch the button function at the steering-column junction so that all left buttons are down and all right buttons are up, stuff like that. That way it could function on a non-FPV wheel too. But your way has a higher coolness factor.... Lukeyson |

Cheers, yes still going with the added buttons idea.
For non-FPV wheels, you could add some button behind or on top, still within reach of fingers/thumbs.

hey, out of curiosity would say an AU wheel fit in a ba with airbag?
if so then a T series (auto ) wheel could be purchased as it has the extra 2 buttons on the steering wheel for this exact thing i actually have the circuit diagram here for the btr 4 speed in the AU's i should see if it works on my car...

I think the AU airbag/steering wheel is more E series. B series got a big upgrade in that regard.

Also I don't think a AU T-series auto wheel will be terribly easy or cheap to find.

no will have to be new i would guess but would save the effort of cutting up say a GT wheel and has the buttons in the correct place sigh, i should try and get it to work on my car

Almost there. Got it working rather well now, except it needs to 'warm up'.
For a few minutes, the up shift works well, down is dodgy (sometimes it'll go up instead). After it's 'warmed up' everything works sweet. Stereo buttons don't interfere with operation of the shift controller (good), however if you press the up and down buttons at once, you'll change the source on the stereo (not ideal, but liveable for me). More work to do, but the end is in sight.

Well, today on the drive into work, it worked flawlessly from the time I started the car, to when I parked it.
I've had to add in a fair bit more to the design than I was planning (or hoping) to. It's now got filters on the inputs, and an interlock to prevent the user pressing both buttons and confusing the gearbox. But it still looks like it'll be rather cheap to make even in small numbers (I'll need to find out for sure how much PCBs will be). My version one design was essentially some switchs with some wiring holding it all together. Version two (this one) has digital processing. Anyway, for now is to keep drive testing it, and chase up prices on PCB manufacture, write up some install doco. So, who wants one? At this stage say it'll be $100 (I doubt it'll even be that much). 1. Me 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. (keep it to 10 for the first batch). This is only a registration of interest, send no money. This is for the ZF only, and only tested in a BF (I'm unsure of the FG will work the same, someone in Canberra got one I can test on?). Once this is going, I'll investigate making a model to suit the BTR 4 speed.

...and requires that you have an FPV steering wheel for installing the switches under the 'silver' bits right?

Not really. You can put the switches however you want. I've also thought about placing them behind the existing switch modules (for the cruise and stereo controls).
The FPV wheels just makes it very easy.

I have a 08 BF Fairmont Ghia with the 6 speed, would the paddles work on my wheel? Im keen if they do!

Yeah it'll work. How you place the buttons will be up to you.
I dunno what the Ghia wheel looks like? Do they get a sportier wheel than the other Ford range?

yer it has the small bulges that make you hold the wheel at 10 and 2, they are a really nice wheel.
