Hi guys,

Thought I'd post my question in this old thread instead of starting a new one. I have an EL XR8 whose side mouldings have faded to Barbie pink and I'd like to restore them to their original red. Does anyone know which, if any, of the paint codes in the previous post I should use when I buy the paint?

Thanks,
Matt

You should be able to pull the paint code off of your VIN plate underneath the hood up near the brackets that hold the hood on to the frame (I believe on the right hand side). It should tell you a code under "Paint" or "Colour" saying a code like K9 (aka Meteorite Metallic).

This should be the easiest and most accurate way of finding out what the colour code is. Autobarn can mix this specific colour up in Concept Paints Acrylic, if I'm not mistaken, if I am, I think it may be their "No Mix" range. The biggest thing to keep in mind is depending on the various conditions of how the car has been stored over the years, the paint may have faded a little, or even a lot. Alternate shops will actually utilise a form of camera which will take three snaps of a panel and work out the paint mix via a mid range variable to give the most accurate match. Hope this helps.

Thanks for that Teknoslasher, I checked the VIN plate and it only gives the paint code for the bodywork, not the trim pieces. Not to worry, I'll just pick a nice red and paint the front and rear strips to match as well :D

Cheers
Matt
