So it is definetely coolant level because my friend told me the same thing so i checked it and it seems to be fine, could it just be an electrical fault?

Yes it is possible that you may have a faulty switch seeing that it is a 20 year old car.

Yep, my car has the same thing, my mate jokingly said "Looks like your battery-fan warning light is on!"

The reason my light is on is because the little float in the tank is cracked and full of water, so it sends the signal that the float is down and therefore it thinks it's empty. Most likely that is the same for you. I already glued my float up but it must have busted again so I didn't worry about it.

i had the same thing too but just bought a new switch, they are the same part to el/nl/dl not sure about au though.
