I'll be dropping the car off tomorrow to CMS to have the conversion done, hopefully I'll have the car back with some 6 speed goodness before Chirstmas :P .

Just hope the box dosn't foul on the custom headers.
Updates to come.

Cheers Matt

Your xr8 sounds like its got some seriouse power mate, think the 6 speed will hold up ok?
Yeah T5s dont like to play rough, I would never be confident to use one again.
Thanks for the positive feed back mate :D

A little bit of an update.

I will be ordering the hydraulic peddel/clutch setup from Mal Wood next week.

· Underdash Hydraulic Pedal Unit, including Alloy Reservoir
· Braided Hydraulic Delivery Line
· Braided Remote Bleeder
· Alloy Slave Cylinder

Hopfully its all arrives in time to have the conversion done before Christmas.

Cheers Matt

hey capare
love how the xr is coming along,

ive got a couple of questions about the T56 if you dont mind
how much are they?
do you know the gear ratios?
can you get the gearing set the same as a standard xr ratio?
and how much customising is required
im asking as my xr6 realy really reqiures 1 more gear
as when im cruising at 100-110 im sittng on 2250-2500 rpm
and would like to drop the revs a bit.

cheers jk

Hey JK, Not sure how much I can help you because your is a I6, I'd assume its pretty much the same to convert the I6 just a differnt bellhousing.

*The box is $3700 from dellow conversions, You can get these box's in 2 different ratios. I'm using box (GM TUET11012 LS HYD)

Check the ratios and all related info here- http://www.tremec.com/performance/t56m.html
Here is a gear calculator- http://www.tremec.com/performance/gear-calculators.html
(I would make sure the input shaft length is correct before ordering a tranny)

*Im pretty sure you can use a BA/BF I6 bellhousing If someone can correct me if i'm wrong. So im not sure on the price $$? Mine cost $700.

*Get your tail shaft shortened $120 or a custom shaft made up $450

*You will need the 31 spline slip yoke $150

*Some custom gearbox mounts made up

*If changing the diff gears you will need a speedo corrector $150, which you will need to do (i'm using 3.7s.

*A 26 spline clutch $650+

*Hydraulic clutch/peddel set up $1200

That will give you an Idea on what is involved for the conversion.
I may have left out 1 or 2 things so forgive me if i'v missed something.

If you want more info give Mal Wood or dellow a call or email with any questions you need answered.

Cheers Matt

Bit of an update,

I had my hydraulic conversion gear turn up from Mal Wood on Monday.

After getting my hydraulics I started on the conversion.
I ran into a few promlems fitting the t56, the clutch from my G Force T5 fits up well BUT, the T5 uses a 17mm spigot bearing where as the T56 Magnum uses a 15mm spigot. So fitting the clutch became a problem, the clutch alingment tool didn't fit the spigot and not one person sold the LS alingment tool without selling a complete clutch kit.

So I tried to get a old broken 26 spline LS input shaft, no luck there.
We decided to go down to Sydney Speed Shop (Procomp) yes I know Procomp to see if they had anything. They didn't have anything but they took my plastic clutch alingment tool and machined it down from 17mm to 14.9mm and what do you know perfect fit!
Looks like they are good for somthing LOL.

After fitting up the clutch we went over to K.C.D.R Drivetrains to have the tailshaft shortend and have the 31 spline slip yoke put on.

So with the clutch sorted and the tailshaft being taken care of we started our measurements for our CSC (consentric slave cylinder) crush.
We took our measurments from the block face to the fingers of the clutch, =78.5mm.
Then measured from the opening of the bellhousing to the CSC face, =76.5mm.
Now the correct amount of CSC crush is between 14mm and 17mm and this is how to work out your crush.
You need to take your first measurment 78.5mm (block to clutch fingers) and minus the second measurement 76.5mm (bellhousing to CSC).
The second measurement should be 14mm to 17mm less than the first measurement, if not you need spacers to get the corect amount of crush.
78.5mm - 76.5mm = 2mm of crush. So a 13mm CSC spacer is required to get 15mm of crush.

With the CSC crush worked out I have ordered a 13mm spacer from Dellow conversions but it wont be ready till after Chirstmas.

The electronic speedo output on the T56 Magnum is differnt to the T5s so I have ordered the correct Tremec speedo gear from Mal Wood.
I did a few measurements and it looks like the T56 Magnums shifter will line up almost perfect to the trans tunnel shifter opening, I'm pretty happy with that.

As soon as I get the required parts in january the box will be going in.

Cheers Matt
